Carbrain and Hillcrest Community Council have been recognised as a thriving community for the second year in a row. The It’s Your Neighbourhood judges commended them on their community participation and environmental responsibility.

The group has had a busy year organising a gala, running a free playscheme and working with a local school to grow vegetables and plant bulbs. They have great links to local charity Watch Us Grow who work hard to create a magnificent floral display at Cumbernauld train station. The playscheme has been out picking litter and setting a great example to others to improve their environment. The group’s continued efforts to maintain Carbrain Gully are ensuring that this is a successful community area.

The play schemes involvement in the Langriggs #LivingWindow created one of the most inspiring workshops of the whole project. This saw children from Carbrain visit the historic site where they played in the gardens and learnt about the wild flowers. They are now working with the Cumbernauld Living Landscape community engagement officer to collect local wild flower seed and create wild flower patches of their own.
