School’s out for summer! Even the best student looks forward to July and the start of the long summer break. It always seemed to flash past as a child, but I suspect for parents, who have to think up ways of keeping the kids amused, it took a little longer.

This summer Cumbernauld Living Landscape will be doing our best to help out families looking for fun events. Every Wednesday throughout July we’ll be out in the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Cumbernauld Glen reserve with a selection of nature based games, tasks and activities.

Our first session on the 5th of July will focus on trees. We’ll learn the names of some of the trees that are around us down in the Glen and see how we can tell them apart, use fallen leaves and sticks to make some artwork, and play some fun tree based games.

Next Wednesday we’ll be looking at wildflowers and the creatures that pollinate them. We’ll learn the names and some folklore about common native plants found in the Glen and hunt for butterflies and bumblebees.

In future weeks we’ll find out how much fun can be had with just a simple stick as well as helping you learn bush craft skills.

If you want to come along then get in touch with us through the Cumbernauld Living Landscape Facebook page or email Gemma MacDonald, gmacdonald@scottishwildlifetrust.org.uk
