Dementia Awareness Week

This week is Dementia Awareness Week, an initiative to try and raise the profile of an illness which as we all begin to live longer lives is becoming increasingly prevalent in society. Researchers are finding that one thing that can mitigate the symptoms of illnesses like dementia is getting outdoors. Many sufferers still have glowing memories of past contact with

Wild Ways Well 21st May

We’ve been enjoying the weather with the various Wild Ways Well groups over the past couple of weeks.  I’m not saying that there’s more benefit to getting out amongst nature when the sun is shining, but it’s certainly easier to get motivated! We’ve been spending a lot of time in amongst the various bluebell sites to be found around the

Wild Ways Well 14 May

Learning is enjoying Warning! This is a positive message! I have been thinking a lot recently about how we learn and what are the best conditions for learning. The reason is: I do love learning!  I have also been thinking about the magic of discovering something new since I started to get involved with the Wild Ways Well. I thought

Tourist’s paradise

How far would you travel to go to the supermarket, or to take your kids to nursery?  For some residents of Cumbernauld it might be further than you think. Mr Parker P.E. teacher had brought through a small group of students who have taken part in the ‘Engaging Communities‘  project which ended last year. The event was delivered to MSP’s,

A Gift to the Future

Here in the Cumbernauld Living Landscape Office we have a framed quote hanging on the wall, given to us by one of our volunteers, it reads “Societies grow great when old men plant trees under whose shade they will never sit”. It was a lovely gift and it’s something I reflect upon often when I consider the work we do.

Here be Badgers!

It was a mixed bag for the Wild Ways Well groups last week, the Tuesday group was forced indoors by the heavy rain and freezing conditions, while the Thursday group spent part of its session basking in the sunshine in a woodland clearing! Mother Nature likes keeping us guessing. Looking at my diary, last year at this time we were
